The language chosen for the translation is Noldorin approximately of the time of the Etymologies rather than later Sindarin.
I assume the conception where the genitive/possessive noun is lenited (as in Ennyn Ðurin Aran Vória (TI:182)).
I assume it to be permissible that gar- is conjugated as an a-verb (note the past tense garant).
